A more common and beginner-friendly approach is hopping over the crack: stay low as you approach, almost crouching, and as your front wheels hit the start of the crack, use your forward momentum for a slight upward boost so your back wheels can glide over the gap behind them. Done correctly, it becomes an almost effortless, natural motion with enough practice.
Foot placement matters too. Keep your back foot centered and your front foot slightly forward for better control over small irregularities in the pavement, and keep your hips low and facing forward to avoid wobbling or losing speed. Finally, body position and weight shifting tie it all together: face the gap directly so you have a clear view of where you’re landing, lean forward with your shoulders, bend your knees slightly to transfer more weight onto your wheels, and keep your momentum steady — too much speed too early can turn a manageable crack into a genuine hazard.
